In addition to shamanic treatments with clients or when using shamanic principles and practices for oneself, it’s useful to augment these treatments with other activities that support the healing of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). In particular, understanding how trauma impacts the individual and initiates instinctual responses that are aimed at survival. These adaptations are necessary for survival but once the traumatic event has passed, they simply aren’t as useful for living a full and healthy life. What is often useful is to augment the shamanic treatments with other activities that help the shamanic healing. Here Dr Steven Farmer discusses some of these activities and why these augmentations are important to heal the whole person.
