Hello, I am new to Shamanic practices and I have a question about Mapacho.
Someone I know introduced me to Mapacho that was already rolled for personal practice. I have purchases rolled Mapacho a couple times. Im curious though, I am seeing Mapacho that is a big roll, uncut/not shredded, it’s just a big roll. How would I use Mapacho in this form? Is there a process I can do to use this for personal practice? How can I break this down? I have tried to look info up online but of course there isnt a lot out there. I do like having it in a roll but open to using it in different ways. My biggest curiosity about getting a big roll like this is to save money from buying it rolled. I am willing to roll myself, or pipe, burn as an incense or drink it…? I dont know all the ways it can be used and how to use the big roll. Any advise? -

Elizabeth I’m guessing you’re talking about purchasing a tobacco log. These are typically rolled whole leaves sealed with honey and covered with bamboo wrap. If you simply leave it out and it will go moldy and be good compost.
To use I first freeze the whole log wrapped in aluminum foil. When I want to prepare some for rolling into a mapacho or use in a pipe I cut a small section 2 or 3 inches from the frozen log and re-wrap the remainder of the bag and put it away back in the freezer. It will last for years covered with foil. The cut portion should be thawed in the refrigerator. Use a utility knife on the thawed piece to shave pieces off like you’re sharpening a pencil. Use your fingers to break it apart into small pieces Dash no hunks, no chunks. Break apart the leaves until it looks like what you’re used to in pipe tobacco . Small pieces of leaves without any sticking together. This takes a while. Perhaps use it as a meditation. That can be used to roll or in a pipe.
Keep the remainder of the thawed log piece in a bag in the refrigerator. It will last months there. Keep the separated leaves ready for use in another bag in the refrigerator. Don’t leave it out at room in a bag or loose to keep it fresh unless you’re tfor using it in the next days or week.
