About me

I have lived in quiet country for decades, learning from Mother Earth, growing medicinal herbs and vegetables, giving birth at home, and homeschooling my children.  In 1999, I met a Taita Iachak from the Andes Mountains and apprenticed to him for many years.  I often traveled to the Andes to learn from him and his people.  In 2007 I was given the title Mama Iachak which conferred on me the responsibility of sharing what I have learned of the mystical traditions of the Andes and the responsibility of walking in balance on the path of shamanic healing.  For almost 20 years, I have taught courses in Contemplative Studies at The University of Michigan.  In these courses, I teach sitting meditation, nature-based contemplation, and shamanism.  The shamanism course is practice oriented, not theoretical, assisting students in learning how to connect with their inner strengths and Nature.

For many years, I have offered workshops and retreats helping people connect with Nature for healing and personal transformation.  These retreats are now offered at my farm and at the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Park in Michigan.  I have a Ph.D. from The University of Michigan.  In addition to my teaching and shamanic practice, I am an author.  My most recent publication is The WayCard Oracle: A Guide to the Inner Journey, published by Schiffer Books.

From my Kichwa teacher, I learned the technique of ‘limipieza,’ healing ceremonies that connect us with the five elements: earth, water, fire, air, and Ushai.  I offer these ceremonies to those who come to my land.
