Plant Spirit Apprenticeship “Plant Magic and Ancestral Plant Lineages”

The winter/spring 2025 Apprenticeship meets on Monday evenings weekly via Zoom, with plant materials shipped to you in advance. This Apprenticeship is hands-on with the plants!

Our focus will be plant magic and ancestral plant lineages and how we connect with them. Instead of our usual human centric and human focused lens, we will work with plants from their own perspectives on plant-human relationships. 

The term plant magic can bring to mind; folk magic, spells, blessings, curses, love magic, protection and cleansing work. Humans have a history of using plants to bend our life experiences to our wishes and desires. Typically, little to no consideration is given to plant sovereignty, asking permission and working cooperativly with plant spirit. This can be a defining difference between a healer and a sorcerer, but isn’t the only difference.

Humans cannot survive without plants. We rely on them for physical nourishment directly and indirectly. They have provided much of our clothing throughout time. Our own access to liminal spaces and communication has been greatly enhanced and facilitated by our relationships with plants. Plants and mycelium likely have provided a basis for all fauna to easily access shared liminal spaces. 

Plants are ancestral for us and in many ways are our ancestors. Working from the perspective of the plants themselves, instead of a human perspective, there is much more for us to learn from our plant ancestors. 

We will work with many plants, and one very influential mycelium/mushroom.  Our work will be with practical magic that you will learn to use in everyday life and build upon during our weeks together.

For those considering signing up for this round, you will need to be able to have time to work with the plant materials outside of class. We will be working with consuming/ingesting some of the materials, lighting some on fire (plant smoke) and doing some very simple mini-weaving with plants (no prior experience necessary). So, this is a very hands on year with the plants and materials. This physical work is required to do the practical magic work. Plan for about thirty minutes, two times per week outside of class. 

We will also cooperatively work with the plant charms, songs, chants and applying plant magic to physical materials. 

As is typical, I will be providing plant materials and sending them through the mail to you. There will be an additional short materials list you will be responsible for providing for yourself, some of which you probably already have.

This Apprenticeship is for gaining skills in your personal work and personal growth with Plant Spirit. This offering is not for learning to do client work.

The plants are calling out to us, to come to know them, to accept their friendship and unique medicine for our times. Will you come to apprentice to them? Will you sit and listen to them?
