Join author and mythologist Anthony Murphy for a one-day introduction to Irish mythology, legend and folklore. Learn all about the four great cycles of Irish mythology – the Mythological Cycle, the Ulster Cycle, the Finn Cycle and the era of the High Kings.
We will look at key manuscripts in the mythological traditions of Ireland, such as Lebor Gabála Érenn (The Book of Invasions), Dindshenchas (Lore of the Sacred Places), and the sources specifically relating to the myths and legends of Brú na Bóinne and the Boyne Valley.
There will be a special focus in this one-day course on the Tuatha Dé Danann, the pre-Christian, prehistoric pantheon of deities who are very closely associated with the great monuments of Brú na Bóinne – Newgrange, Knowth and Dowth.
The course includes a private tour of the great megalithic passage-tomb of Dowth, which is situated right next door to Glebe House.
Included in the course fee will be study materials – copies of relevant books and papers pertaining to Ireland’s old myths and legends.
Enjoy this immersion into Irish mythology in an idyllic and peaceful countryside setting.
