Getting Under The Surface (GUTS): Group Coaching for Healers & Shamanic Practitioners
- February 22, 2025
- 1-3pm CST (USA)
- $25
This group coaching session focuses on helping you improve your mental, physical and emotional health by digging into mindfulness, meditation, self care and relationships — including the relationship you have with yourself, and the people you care for as a healer and/or shamanic practitioner.
WHAT TO EXPECT
Discussions are driven by participants, so each coaching session is unique. That said, some of the recurring topics that arise include how to …
- Reduce burnout & stress
- Boost resilience
- Learn to observe one’s thoughts & emotions, manage them more effectively, and be less overwhelmed by them
- Implement sustainable, customizable self-care strategies for improved mental, physical and emotional health
- Better understand what resilience is, and how to develop practices that help strengthen resilience (and overall wellbeing) in sustainable ways
- Use simple breath techniques as a tool to release stress and increase consciousness
- Meet yourself where you are, without judgement, and improve your wellbeing
- Understand that thoughts & emotions are things we experience — they are not who we are
- Manage negative self talk
- Identify and let go of resistance, while learning how to practice acceptance more often
- Practice mindfulness to lessen distraction and be more in the moment
- Incorporate the “yes, and” philosophy into your personal & professional lives, providing you with a solutions-based approach to any situation
HOW A GROUP COACHING SESSION WORKS
- Up to 4 participants are welcome to attend
- The session is 2 hours in length, and includes:
- A 10-minute group introduction
- Followed by individual 3-minute introductions from each group member
- Next, each group member gets up to 12 minutes to share (challenges, concerns, life situation, etc.) in more detail before receiving feedback from the group
- Feedback from the group, including myself, focuses on asking questions or sharing relevant experiences that pertain to one or more of the challenges mentioned
- We do not give advice — instead we do our best to share personal experiences and insights, and ask thought-provoking questions to help each person in the group clarify for themselves how to proceed, and find their own answers
- During, or after, group feedback occurs, each person has the opportunity to ask follow up questions and make comments to the group (this is more of a dialog, and less structured than how it may seem)
- The group setting allows all participants to learn from and also support each other. It is a safe space, free of judgement
It’s important to note that this group coaching session has no sales pitch, and no adding anybody to an email list or newsletter — in other words, no baloney!

MORE ABOUT JOEY
Joey’s road to facilitating Getting Under The Surface programs and coaching sessions began with his own self-care journey, when he nearly died from a condition called Crohn’s disease in 1998.Since then he has been practicing mindfulness and meditation, and is a long-time student on the subjects of self-care, neuroplasticity, trauma, psychology, spirituality, and relationships. These studies have drastically improved the quality of Joey’s life, and health, making it possible for him to manage his Crohn’s disease without the use of medication. Joey’s studies also include Native American spirituality, Buddhism, and the teachings of Ram Das and Eckhart Tolle. He is currently a student in Eckhart Tolle’s School of Awakening program, working on his Becoming a Teacher of Presence certificate.
In 2017, Joey’s desire to dig deeper into these practices increased when his wife became sick with a severe case of fibromyalgia. In a very short time, work and home life were turned upside down, and the importance of self-care once again became increasingly clear.
As anxiety, fear, worry and exhaustion began to engulf him, Joey was experiencing high levels of stress, burnout — and was beginning to fall apart taking care of everyone except for himself. In a defining moment (which he talks about in his programs), Joey realized that self-care is not selfish — it’s a necessity in order to maintain one’s mental, physical, emotional and spiritual health — and effectively serve others.
These experiences led Joey to create his GUTS podcast, and begin facilitating GUTS programs, and coaching — all of which focus on mindfulness, meditation, self-care, and relationships — including the relationship we have with ourselves. His goal is to share his experiences, and what he’s learned, in order to help others on their path.
